Garbage generation up five times

The garbage generation of the city has gone up by as much as five times in the city, courtesy the festivities associated with Divali.
While the residents greet each other with tastefully decorated and wrapped gifts, clean and whitewash their houses, the additional litter and waste has not only played havoc with the environment, the sewerage disposal but also put a huge burden on the employees who have put on the round-the-clock duty to clean the mess.

Passersby, cops rescue bus passengers

Timely help by passersby and the police rescued around 20 passengers and driver of a private bus that had collided with a tree near Dhaipaie village on the Ludhiana-Pakhowal road, near here, last night.

Samiti stages mock hanging of Afzal Guru
Ludhiana, October 20
Activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Suraksha Samiti staged a mock hanging of Afzal Guru, who has been sentenced to death for his role in the attack on Parliament, near Clock Tower here today. His hanging, scheduled to be held today, has been postponed.
Samiti leader Rajiv Tandon, who was leading the activists, condemned the “selfish politicians”, who were seeking clemency for Afzal to appease the minorities.
