2 cars with Home Affairs stickers go missing

New Delhi, October 20
Two cars, with Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) stickers, have gone missing on the eve of Divali, triggering a scare among security agencies which fear that these vehicles could be used by terrorists to carry out strikes.

A Maruti car (DL-4CG-4911) and a Mahindra Bolero (DL-2CM-7361), both belonging to two senior Home Ministry officials, were stolen over the past two days from separate places in the Capital, police sources said today.

The Delhi Police and other security agencies are concerned as both vehicles carry security-cleared Ministry of Home Affairs stickers which gives them access to almost all sensitive places in the Capital.

The Maruti car went missing from outside Lodhi Garden in South Delhi when the official was taking an early morning stroll.

The Bolero was stolen from outside the house of the official’s driver in Kotla Mubarakpur locality in South Delhi during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

Police has registered separate cases of theft and have launched a massive hunt to track down the vehicles.

The incident comes amid high alert in Delhi in view of Divali and Id, considering that terrorists carried out major strikes in the Capital on the eve of these festivals last year killing 67 people and injuring over 200.

Intelligence agencies have warned that terrorists might carry out attacks this year also. — PTI
