Jagraon ONE HELD: The Jagraon police arrested Deepak Bhardwaj, alias Deepu, of Alwar (Rajasthan) in the Akhara area on Thursday. He was going in his car (DL-6CG-1103) from which about 60 kg of poppy husk was recovered. The police has impounded the vehicle under sections 15, 60, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act. ASSAULT CASE: The Sudhar police registered a case under Sections 325, 323 and 34 of the IPC against Hardip Singh, Gagan and Takdi Bhaiya on the charge of assaulting Rajdeep Singh of Halwara on October 28. Some old dispute is said to be the reason behind the attack. The injured have been admitted to the Arora Hospital, Ludhiana. JAN SAMPARAK RALLY: Mr Lal Singh, Finance Minister, Punjab, lashed out at the Akalis at a massive rally organised by the local unit of the Congress at Old Grain Market on Thursday. The rally was part of the Jan Samparak programme to mobilise Congress workers for the November-14 rally in Ludhiana. Mr Gurcharan Singh Galib, former MLA, Mr Gurbinder Singh Atwal, MLA, Mr Gurdip Singh Bhaini, former MLA, Mr Raj Kumar Malhotra and Mr Parshottam Lal Khalifa were among prominent persons present at the rally. Samrala FUNCTION: The Punjabi Likhari Sabha, Rampur, will hold a literary function on “Chatti Andre Theh”, a book by Gurdial Dalal, at the Rampur rest house on Sunday, according to Mr Surinder Rampuri, president of the sabha. Prof Hamdardveer Nausheharvi will preside over the function. A kavi darbar will also be held. Dr Gulzar Mohammad Goria, Prof Raman and Principal Sohan Bhanto will present papers on the book. |
