Over 300 examined at medical camp

Ludhiana, November 6
Over 300 patients were examined at a free medical camp organised by a team of doctors from the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) and Hero DMC Heart Institute (HDHI) at Rupalon village, near Doraha, yesterday.

The camp was held in association with the Krishna Breast Cancer Care Charitable Trust, Ludhiana.

Patients suffering from breast cancer, heart disease and gynaecological problems were examined by specialists. A specialist to deal with general medical problems was also present.

The camp saw patients from around 10 villages in the surrounding area.

Free tests like ECHO, ECG and blood sugar level were conducted and medicines were given free of cost.

Dr G.S. Wander, Chief Cardiologist at the HDHI, was among those doctors present at the camp.

Besides examining patients, he provided them counselling on lifestyle. He said certain countries had seen a significant drop in the number of deaths from heart attacks over the past 30 years largely due to healthy lifestyle.

A balanced diet, regular exercise, mental relaxation and avoiding smoking were the essential for leading a healthy lifestyle.

Other specialists were Dr J.S. Sekhon, Dr G.S Brar, Dr Narinder Jain and Dr Shweta Gupta.

Ludhiana paddlers for Punjab meet

Ludhiana, November 6
On the basis of their performance in the Ludhiana District Table Tennis Tournament, the following paddlers have been selected to represent Ludhiana district in the 47th Punjab State Inter-District Table Tennis Championship to be held here at the Shastri Hall of Guru Nanak Stadium from November 8 to 12, according to Mr Fang Jenn Chiu, honorary general secretary, Ludhiana District Table Tennis Association.

The players are: (sub junior boys)---Bhavuk of Alpine International Public School, Ankush of Green Land Senior Secondary School, Agnish and Chirag of Bhartiya Vidya Mandir School.

Sub junior girls---Kirti Aggarwal of Bhartiya Vidya Mandir School; Anushka, Kritika and Bhumika of Alpine International Public School.

Junior boys---Manpreet, Dharminder and Abhijeet of Green Land Senior Secondary School and Parul DAV Public School.

Junior girls---Nirdosh, Shweta and Kirti Aggarwal of Bharatiya Vidya Mandir School and Eeti of Green Land Senior Secondary School.

Men---Rachit Chopra of Sacred Heart Convent School, Sahil Sharma, Dharminder, Manpreet and Disney Riat of Green Land Senior Secondary School.

Women- Nirdosh, Kirti Aggarwal and Shwetra of Bhartiya Vidya Mandir School; Shruti and Smriti of Alpine International Public School.

Bhutta college cyclists excel

Ludhiana, November 6
Cyclists of Bhutta College of Engineering and Technology (BCET), Bhutta, were declared second runners-up in the 3rd PTU Inter-College Cycling Championship (men), organised by GNIMT, Ludhiana, at the PAU velodrome recently.

The BCET team comprising Amrinder Singh, Gurvir Singh, Sukhwinder Singh and Puneet Kaushik won bronze medals in two team events - 1500m time trail and 4000m team pursuit.

Amrinder and Gurvir will represent the PTU in the All-India Inter-Varsity Cycling Championship to be held at Punjabi University, Patiala, this month.

The management of the BCET honoured the cyclists with cash prize for bringing laurels to the college.

Grewal emerges best golfer

Ludhiana, November 6
Col S.S. Grewal with 39 points emerged as the best stable-ford in the inaugural edition of the DC Golf Cup-2006 tournament held at Ranjitgarh Golf Club Course of the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur, near here, yesterday.

Amrinder Singh (38 points) followed him closely for the second best-stable ford with 38 points.

Rajeev Kapoor and S.S. Babla with 67 and 68 net, respectively, while TPS Gurm (303 yards) won the longest drive prize. RKS Grewal (8 feet) and TPS Gurm (76) clinched nearest to pin and best gross prize, respectively. In the women's section, B.S. Grewal won ladies putting event, while D.S. Gurm finished the runner-up.

Mr Rajdeep Singh Gill, ADGP, Punjab, and president, Ranjitgarh Golf Club gave away prizes to the winners. Mr D.S. Garcha, IPS, secretary of the club, thanked Mr Gill and congratulated the position holders.
