PG course in nuclear reactor engg

With an expected increase in the growth of the nuclear power industry in the country, the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Karnataka, will offer a postgraduate course in nuclear reactor engineering from the next academic year.

This was announced in Mumbai recently by Pro-Vice Chancellor and Director of MIT, S.S. Pabla, during a conference on "Nuclear Data for Next Generation Medicine and Technology," at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) University.

The course is for two years and will concentrate on the reactor design and mechanical part of it, Pabla said, adding MIT is the first university to introduce the subject in the country.

Among the 10 subjects MIT has chosen are nuclear engineering, nuclear physics, instrumentation and nuclear fuels, he said.

An online test will be conducted to select the appropriate candidates.

The curriculum has been finalised and would be placed before the Board of Studies of MAHE for approval, Pabla said. — PTI
