Updated book on TB released
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, December 4
A city-based physician, Dr R.S. Bhatia, has compiled a multi-author update on tuberculosis which has been released in the market by Peepee Publishers and Distributors, Delhi, recently.

While launching the book, Dr Bhatia observed that tuberculosis (TB) was an important public health problem in India, which of late, had been further aggravated by the emergence of HIV infection. The occurrence of TB and HIV infections together were posing a serious threat to the control of TB.

He further said even though the main form of TB was pulmonary, still it could affect any organ in the body. This was the main reason that in depth knowledge of TB with regard to symptomatology, diagnosis and treatment was essential to all physicians and surgeons, especially in a country like India.

In the foreword to the book, Dr V.K. Vijayan, Director, Vallabh Bhai Patel Chest Institute, Delhi, remarked that in the book, Dr Bhatia, and other contributors, had dealt with all aspects of TB, including history and epidemiology, diagnosis, immunopathogenesis and management of the disease.

"An added attraction of the book is the inclusion of chapters on extra-pulmonary tuberculosis and management of tuberculosis in special situations. Other important features of this book are chapters on co-infection of tuberculosis and HIV, MDR tuberculosis and the revised national TB control programme. All chapters are written lucidly and have been updated." Dr Vijayan added.
