830 examined at medical camp

December 16 As many as 830 patients were examined by a
team of doctors from Fortis Hospital, Mohali. Medicines were given to the patients free of cost. Dr. Alok Madan Free facility of ECG, blood sugar and ECHO tests was provided to the patients on the spot. Free Langar was served to the patients. |

Delhi University record 4-0 win
Ludhiana, December 16 Delhi varsity players drew first blood in the third minute of the match when their skipper, Naveen Kumar scored a fine field goal. Hemant Singh scored a brace ( 20th and 43rd mintue) to consolidate the lead while Ravinder Joshi found the target in the 50th minute to enable his team to wrap up the issue 4-0. Delhi University forced six penalty corners five of which went abegging while Jammu University secured seven penalty corners but failed to capitalise on these scoring chances. The match played between Lucknow University and Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla too turned out to be a well-fought affair in which the former came out triumphant 1-0. The all important goal was scored by Afjal Ahmed in the very first minute of the match. Punjabi University, Patiala scored a facile 10-0 victory over CSJM University, Kanpur while Kurkshetra University toyed with Dr RML Avadh University, Faizabad whom they trounced without being challenged 9-0. Bundel Khand University, Jhansi pipped Dr Amedkar University, Agra 4-0. Raghvendra scored two goals while Dharmenra Partap and Bhupinder Kumar chipped in with one goal each to script their side's easy victory. In another match, Panjab University, Chandigarh, proved too good for Kumaon University, Nainital who they drubbed 8-0 after leading 3-0 at the breather while CCS University, Meerut outnumbered MJP Rohil Khand University, Bareilly 6-2. |

Christmas Cup cricket tournament from today
Ludhiana, December 16 According to Mr Bhuvnesh Punni, general secretary of the organising academy, the names of the participating teams are: Sports Club, Rana Club, Chand Cricket Club, Grewal XI of Ludhiana, Professional Cricket Club of Chandigarh, PSEB XI of Patiala, F C Sondhi XI of Jalandhar, Sports Club of Amritsar, Surinder XI of Ladhowal, Bobby XI, Nitin XI, Malwa Cricket Club, Sharni XI, Sunrise Cricket Club, Jeet Cricket Club, Shivam Cricket Academy and Sekhewal Club of Ludhiana. During this week-long tournament, the matches of 20 overs each will be played on knock-out basis. Two matches will be conducted daily. Two matches slated for tomorrow are Malwa Cricket Club vs Sunrise Cricket Club at 10 am and Rana Club vs Sekhewal Club at 1 pm. The winners will pocket a cash prize of Rs 11,000 while the runners up will receive a cash prize of Rs 5,100 besides other attractive itmes, Mr Punni said. |
94 pc of Punjab Nirman fund utilised: DC
Ludhiana, December 16 This was revealed by Mr Ashok Kurriar Gupta, Deputy Commissioner (DC), while chairing a meeting of the District Planning and Development Board held at Bachat Bhavan here yesterday. The DC said during this year, funds amounting to Rs 2230.73 lakh had been released by the Department of Planning for which the approval of the District Planning and Development Board had been given. Mr Gupta said the utilisation certificates of works amounting to Rs 1190.70 lakh had already been received out of the total Rs 1190. 70 lakh and directed the officers to immediately complete the remaining works and submit the utilisation certificates at the earliest. Reviewing the programme, he said the district had received funds of Rs 1103.73 lakh from the state-level initiative of the Punjab Nirman Programme, which were also being utilised speedily. He said the state government had provided funds amounting to Rs 9.38 crore to the district for further release to the registered sports clubs, youth clubs and mahila mandals to further strengthen their activities and to the dharamshala committees of SCs weaker sections, BCs, Christians, etc for the construction and repair of the buildings. He said the state government had asked the Deputy ESA to immediately issue the required sanctions to the organisations who had applied for these grants. He said the inquiry into the allegations of misappropriations of funds against the BDPO, Pakhowal, had been completed by the ADC(D) and the case was being sent to the higher authorities for taking strict action. Later, the DC presided over the meeting of the District Grievances Removal Committee, in which 10 complaints were taken up, out of which, six were settled on the spot. Referring to a complaint regarding the completion of 300 ft wide road from Pakhowal Road to Urban Estate, Dugri, Mr S.R. Kaler, ACA, PUDA, said the case was pending in court. On a complaint regarding the bad shape of godowns in Burj Hari Singh village, the DC directed the Secretary, Mandi Board, to expedite the case for enforcing strict action against the officials. Mr Gupta directed the DDPO to provide the alternative place out of panchayat land for the dumping place of dead animals (Hadanrori) at Hanskalan village. He directed the District Forest Officer to immediately tackle the monkey menace in Sirthala village. Others who attended the meeting included Mr Surinder Dawar, Mrs Harbans Kaur Dullo, Mr Malkiat Singh Dakha, Mr Gurcharan Singh Galib, Mr Ramesh Joshi, Mr K.K. Bawa, Mr Pryank Bharti, ADC (D), Mr S.R.
