Chill keeps students away
Tribune News Service

Ludhiana, January 2
Most of the city colleges, including the Government College for Women, SCD Government College, Master Tara Singh College and Khalsa College for Women, opened today after the winter break, but the hangover of the vacations could be seen on the faces of students, who were absolutely in no mood to attend the classes. Many colleges had about 50 per cent attendance in the first two periods because of the foggy weather. As the weather cleared, more and more students could be seen pouring into classrooms.

Pointing to the low attendance, Dr (Ms) Madanjit Kaur Sahota, Principal, Master Tara Singh College for Women, said it was unfortunate as today's generation did not know the value of time. She said that parents were equally responsible, who did not act strict with the lethargic attitude of their children. She said she hoped to see fresh faces of the students after the winter break, but felt rather disappointed to see the low attendance.

Manisha, a student of the KCW, said she did not feel like coming to the college in the morning because of intense cold. "It is difficult to wake up early after holidays. But, I managed to attend my last three lectures," she added.

Another reason for the low attendance seemed to be the distribution of answer sheets of December examinations. One of the faculty members maintained that students knew that they would be shown the answer sheets of various subjects. "All those, who did not do well in the examinations, try to escape. They do not want to face their respective teachers and take leave for two-three days till the whole procedure is completed," she added.

Meanwhile, many students said their syllabi were almost complete and the month of January was more than enough for revisions and solving difficulties. They felt it was better to stay at home and relax rather than bunking classes in college.
