People reeled under intensified cold wave in many parts of northwest India as the minimum temperatures continued to stay low in the region today, touching 1.2°C at Amritsar in the plains.

Rainfall: Weather was dry over the region.

Temperature: Past 24 hours change: The minimum temperatures fell in west Rajasthan and changed little elsewhere. These were appreciably above normal in east Rajasthan and normal in the rest of the region. The lowest temperature in the plains was 1.2 C recorded at Amritsar (Punjab).

Forecast valid until the morning of January 4: Weather will be mainly dry over the region.

Low temperature warning: Ground frost is likely at a few places in north Haryana and Punjab during the next two nights.

Outlook for the subsequent two days: A western disturbance is likely to prevail in northwest India around January 5, 2007. Under its influence rain/snow is likely at a few places in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttaranchal. Isolated rain/thundershowers are likely over Haryana, Punjab and west Rajasthan.

Forecast for Delhi and neighbourhood valid until the morning of January 4: Cold day conditions. Mist/shallow fog in the morning and mainly clear sky afterwards. The minimum temperature will be around 7C.
