Centre ready for CBI probe; no need, says UP Govt
Our Correspondent and agencies

Noida, January 4
Accusing the Mulayam Singh Yadav government of inaction that led to the murder of at least 17 children in Nithari village, the Centre today said it was ready for a CBI probe into the ghastly killings if the state government asked for it.

Union Minister of State for Home Prakash Jaiswal who visited Nithari today noon, said since law and order was a state subject, a CBI probe could be ordered if state government was interested in a speedy probe and agreed to it.

The minister said there was no politics involved in his visit to Nithari and he was visiting the area as a representative of the Government of India and not as a Congress leader.

“The idea is to put pressure on the state government to ensure the matter is probed with all seriousness,” he said.

While the UP PWD Minister, Mr Shiv Pal Yadav, who is a brother of the UP Chie Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, visited Nithari today morning.

He tried to play down the enormity and gravity of the tragedy by saying such petty things did happen everywhere but here it was being blown up (by media) unnecessarily.

He ruled out a CBI probe saying the probe by the state police was proceeding in a satisfactory manner.

Meanwhile, both the accused Moninder Singh Pandher and Surinder Koli have been taken to Gandhi Nagar in Gujarat by road for narco mapping by the Noida police. The narco mapping is expected to be done tomorrow. However, experts say seasoned criminals could manage to come through the narco mapping unscathed, without leaving any clue of the crime committed.

SSP RKS Rathore said that many fresh claimants are coming from other places in UP and elsewhere.

In Nithari skulls and torso of some kids were also recovered, the SSP told mediapersons today.

Meanwhile, the Allahabad High Court has ordered the UP Government to set up a special cell for tracing missing persons. It may be added that hundreds of people are reported missing in UP every year.
