12 die as bus falls into Chenab

Jammu, January 4
Twelve passengers of a state transport corporation bus were killed when it plunged into the Chenab in Doda district today.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Doda, Manohar Singh, said 50 passengers were injured. The critically injured eight persons had been flown to the medical college hospital here. Among those killed are four-year-old boy Abrar and 16-year-old girl Neelo Banoo.

The ill-fated bus was on its way from Kishtwar to Doda when it skidded off the road at around 9.30 a.m. at the Chakrali nullah near Prem Nagar. Matloob Nabi, a computer engineer of the J&K Bank, Khoob Chand, an employee of the J&K Board of School Education, and Mohan Lal, a patwari, were among those killed. Others who lost their lives were, Riyaz Ahmad (38), Ashok Kumar (45), Bashir Ahmed, Mohammad Ayub, Ayub Malik, Mohan Lal (23) and Umar Farooq.
