Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, January 5
It is not just India where tennis sensation, Sania Mirza, is a star. In Indonesia too, she has a huge fan following. This was revealed by the Indonesian women’s team, which consists of the coach Marieke Gunawan, and players Lutfiana Aris Budhiratu, Jessy Rompies and Beatrice Gumulya.

“Sania is the most popular Indian tennis player in Indonesia. Her speedy strokes are her forte,” said Marieke.

Marieke, who is on her second visit to the city, expressed satisfaction over the performance of her team as Jassy Rompies has reached the finals of the tournament while the other player Beatrice, ended her journey in the semifinals. Much to the disappointment of the team members, their top player, Lutfiana (106th seed), has to pull out of the tournament as she twisted her back and has been advised rest for at least 15 days.

“Playing in the city is a good experience as it has good tennis infrastructure. But we have better facilities back in our country,” the coach added.

For the team members, Indian food is a big problem. “We are not used to such spicy food. The best part here is the cold weather and the cleanliness,” the team states.
