Religious fervour marks Gurpurb
Ludhiana, January 5
The birth anniversary of the 10th Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in the city today. Scores of devotees, including women and children, paid obeisance at gurudwaras in all parts of the city, attended kirtan recital by renowned dhadi and kirtani jathas and partook of Guru Ka Langar.

Rs 1.7 lakh grant for school building

Reacting to reports published in Ludhiana Tribune regarding teaching of students of Government Senior Secondary School, Dehlon, in a building declared unsafe by the PWD officials, the Education Department has released a grant of Rs 1.7 lakh for the construction of new rooms at the school.

Punjabi book exhibition

“Without book culture, Punjab’s intellectual thoughts are getting barren and if we do not pay attention to this, the coming generations will not forgive us,” said Dr Surjit Patar, president, Punjab Sahit Akademi, at the inauguration of an exhibition of Punjabi books by the Bharati Sahit Academy, Delhi, here today. The exhibition is being held at Punjabi Bhawan.
Dr Patar said planting of good seeds got good plants. Similarly, reading of good books brought good thoughts and prepared a good platform for future generations.

Lifters vie for slot in National Rural Games

Boys and girls attending a preparatory camp (weightlifting) here since December 27 took part in the final trials today. The selected weightlifters will represent Punjab in the forthcoming National Rural Games slated to be held in Aizwal (Mizoram) from January 16 to 19.

Akhil steers KVM School to 10-wkt win
Ludhiana, January 5
A superb all-round performance by Akhil Aggarwal (4 for 10 and 54 n.o.) steered Kundan Vidya Mandir School, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, to a convincing 10-wicket win over Saraswati Modern High School, Hambran Road, in the first match of the PCA Parle Inter-School Cricket Tournament (u-17) being organised by the Ludhiana District Cricket Association at Arya College grounds here today.
