Tight security in Asom-bound trains

Patna, January 7
Security for passengers in all Asom-bound trains passing through Bihar was tightened apprehending reprisal following carnage of nearly 50 Bihari labourers in Upper Asom last Friday.

DIG of Police (Railways) Ajay Verma said the number of armed guards in six pairs of trains daily to and from Asom had been doubled and each such train would now be escorted by 10 more armed policemen in addition to normal strength of securitymen all along the 600-odd kms of railway route from Buxar in the west to Kishanganj in the east.

Strength of stationary railway police units in important stations had been increased to facilitate constant vigil over the situation and contingents of 100 additional armed securitymen had been deployed in Patna and Katihar rail districts each, he said. — UNI
