Charges framed against Sumedh Saini

New Delhi, January 9
A Delhi court today framed charges against four Punjab Police officers, including Inspector-General Sumedh Saini, in a case of wrongful detention of three persons in 1994.

Taking cognizance of the chargesheet filed by the CBI, the court has framed charges against the then SSP Ludhiana Sumedh Singh Saini, now an IG, the then SP Sukhmohinder Singh Sandhu, former DSP of Mohali Paramjit Singh and Inspector Balbir Chand Tiwari under the Indian Penal Code.

The charges were framed under Sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 342 (wrongful confinement), 343 (wrongful confinement for more than three days) and 364 (kidnapping) of the IPC.

The CBI alleged that Saini, at the helm of affairs of the police administration in Ludhiana district and having influence over all police personnel in the area, had allegedly entered into a criminal conspiracy with three other accused and kept Asish Kumar, Amar Kumar, Rajender in illegal detention. — PTI
