Nithari: CBI takes charge

New Delhi, January 10
The CBI today finally took over the probe into the killing of children and women at Nithari in nearby Noida from the Uttar Pradesh Police by registering some cases.

“We have just now received a notification from the Union Government asking us to begin a probe into the Nithari killings,” CBI Director Vijay Shanker told reporters here this evening.

The CBI’s entry into the investigations in the case followed three days of sparring between the Centre and Uttar Pradesh Government over issuing a formal notification on the issue. The CBI will attach highest priority to the case and probe its entire ramifications, he said. — PTI

Pandher, Surendra undergo medical check-up

Ahmedabad, January 10
Moninder Singh Pandher and his servant Surendra Koli, suspects in the Noida serial killings, today underwent health check-up following forensic tests conducted on them, the police said.

Pandher and Koli underwent the check-up by an expert panel at the Directorate of Forensic Science (DFS), Gandhinagar, where they were subjected to polygraph test, brain mapping and truth serum test.

Pandher, a diabetic, was subjected to the truth serum test yesterday while Koli underwent the test a day earlier.

Though DFS officials expressed satisfaction with the cooperation by the duo during the tests, they did not reveal anything regarding their findings.

The officials said the analysis and report would be submitted to the Noida court.

The Noida police officials, who were present during the tests, also did not disclose any thing about the analysis.

They did not tell whether either of the accused confessed to the allegations of serial kilings.

Meanwhile, the court today extended the police remand of the duo by two days.

The Cheif Judicial Magistrate extended the remand of the accused after the police moved an application stating that doctors at the DFS in Gandhinagar had asked for more time to complete tests on the duo. — PTI
