Joint problems discussed at camp
Our Correspondent

Doraha, January 14
A free orthopaedic camp, organised by the Rotary Club and local Sidhu Hospital, ended here yesterday.

Various diseases of bones and joints were treated at the camp, which included age-related knee and hip arthritis mainly called as osteoarthritis as well as arthritis of young age, popularly known as rheumatoid arthritis.

More than 350 patients were examined and advised different methods to look after their joint problems.

Dr Ravinder Sidhu, director and head of the orthopaedics unit, informed that joint pains, which present at the age of 30 years and 40 years, are due to the inflammation of the joints. These can be very well controlled with different combinations of medicines and anti-inflammatory drugs. If not treated at an early stage, the disease can cause permanent damage to the joints and other body organs.

Joint pains after the age of 60 are due to natural wear and tear, leading to pain during activity, and some times the joints become deformed. These pains can also be treated with the help of life style modification, exercises and simple medicines. Patients who do not respond to medicines and have gross joint destruction respond very well to joint replacement surgery.
