New York, January 20
Democratic Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton today officially launched her campaign to become the first woman President of the United States. “I’m in. And I’m in to win,” Ms Clinton, a former first lady now representing New York in the US Senate, said in a banner headline on her website.
The announcement was being anticipated for several weeks with poll showing that she leads for the Democratic presidential nomination, topping John Edwards and Senator Barack, who is bidding to become first black President of the country.
In a videotaped message on the website, Ms Clinton said: “After six years of George W Bush it is time to renew the promise of America”. She said the “stakes will be high” when America chooses a new President in 2008.
