Animals treated at welfare camp

Ludhiana January 27
The Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension, College of Veterinary Sciences, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana, organised an animal welfare camp at village Dharamgarh (Sangrur) on Thursday in collaboration with K.V.K. Kheri, Sangrur.

A team of experts from GADVASU, Ludhiana, led by Dr. RS Sahota, head, Department of Veterinary and AH Extension, along with experts, Drs. MP Gupta, HK Verma, Prahlad Singh and Navdeep Singh, diagnosed and treated 275 cases of buffaloes, cows, dogs, sheep and goats.

Majority of the cases were of medicine (170) with problems of mastitis, diarrhoea, fever, tick infestation, worm infestation, general debility and bloat. Gynaecology cases (85) were of anoestrus, repeat breeding, prolapse, metritis, abortion and pregnancy check up. Surgical cases (20) were of wound abscess, otitis, teeth problems and lameness.

Typical cases of “fluorine toxicity” were observed as prevalent in the area. The pathological samples of blood, faeces and urine were also tested. Majority of the animals were weak due to worm infestation, mineral deficiencies and lack of fodder and balance feed. The drug application against “ticks” was demonstrated to the farmers as tick infestation was quite prevalent in this season, especially in crossbred cows.

Republic Day infuses spirit of nationalism among students

Ludhiana, January 27
Darshan Academy, Ludhiana, celebrated 58th Republic Day in the school campus by presenting a variety programme. Students spoke about the Indian Constitution with their faces painted and later presented a variety colourful dance. Mr G D Jalota, secretary, hoisted the flag and spoke about rights and duties, the two sides of the same coin, which should go hand in hand.

Bharatiya Vidya Mandir

The 58th Republic Day was celebrated in Bharatiya Vidya Mandir, Kitchlu Nagar. Flag hoisting was being done by Mr M M Bambaji, a member of BVM Trust. A patriotic song was sung by the staff members. Telling the importance of the day, a speech was also given by a staff member. In the end, the National Anthem was presented.

KVM

The students of KVM (City Branch) celebrated Republic Day in the school premises with great enthusiasm and patriotism. The students saluted the nation by arranging a small cultural programme. Speeches, dances and songs were presented in honour of the country. Principal S C Saxena and Headmistress Namita Raj Singh appealed to the students and teachers to put in their best efforts to inculcate social, ethical and democrative values envisaged in the Constitution. Everyone in the school took a pledge to treat education as a powerful instrument of positive change for the progress of the country.

Jesus Sacred Heart School

"Republic Day as celebrated in Jesus Sacred Heart School with great zeal and enthusiasm. Principal Gurnam Kaur unfurled the National Flag. National Anthem was sung by the students. Tiny-tots ere dressed up like famous leaders. A play was enacted by senior students in which tributes were paid to great freedom fighters. Sweets were distributed among students.

GAD Public School

GAD Public School, New Shimlapuri, celebrated Republic Day in its school campus. Mr Pankaj Sharda, president of the Electronic Media Association of Ludhiana, unfurled the National Flag and told the students about the importance of Republic Day. The programme began with the singing of Shabad. “Ai Mere watan key logo,’’ was sung by students of IX class — Tejinder Kaur, Muskan Chaudhary and Amandeep Kaur. Choeography was presented by Gurveer Kaur, Harpreet Kaur and other class X students on the song 'Hum Hain Hindustani.'

Green Land School

The Republic Day celebrations began with the hoisting of the National Flag by the Chairman-cum-Director, Mr Rajesh Rudhrain, Green Land Convent School Managing Committee.

It was followed by the march past by the little stars. The students presented a beautiful cultural show consisting of patriotic dances and poems which evoked nationalistic feelings. The highlight of the show was a speech by Meghna of class III who paid a special tribute to the members of the armed forces, police personnel and other citizens who have laid down their lives for the honour of their nation.

Ryan International School

Republic Day was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm at Ryan International School. The programme started on a note of prayer to the Almighty and a special prayer was sung for the nation.

School Principal Jaishree Gupta hoisted the Tricolour. The students marched with poise and dignity to salute the National Flag. Specially composed patriotic songs sung by the students added to the sprit of the National festival. Slightly deviating from the conventional themes, a play highlighting the sacrifices of the people of Punjab was staged

BCM

A Republic Day function was organised in BCM Dugri. The celebrations commenced with Chief Guest Satyanandji Munjal hoisting the flag. Patriotic emotions permeated the audience as they sat mesmerised through the various patriotic song and dance performances.

Republic Day was celebrated enthusiastically by various colleges here yesterday. Colourful items were presented by students to mark the occasion.

Govt College for Women

Republic Day was celebrated by the staff and students of the Government College for Women on the college campus yesterday. Ms Prabhjot Kaur, the Principal of the college, Ms Narinder Sekhon, additional principal, and Ms Paramjit Kaur, librarian, hoisted the National Flag.

The Principal inspired the students to maintain peace, communal harmony and an environment conducive to development. "Teacher is the best source to encourage and spread the message of awareness among students," she said.

Ms Narinder Sekhon also congratulated the staff and students. Sweets were also distributed.

Master Tara Singh College

The Master Tara Singh Memorial College for Women celebrated Republic Day with patriotic zeal and fervour here yesterday. Tributes were paid to the freedom fighters. On this glorious day, Dr Madanjit Kaur Sahota, Principal of the college, extended her sincere tributes to the several freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country.

The chief guest, Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, took the salute as the cadets of the NSS and NCC units did a march past followed by a special programme, including patriotic songs, skits and speeches. The chief guest exhorted the students to inculcate strong moral values and sense of responsibility to build a dynamic and vibrant India.

Devki Devi Jain College

Republic Day was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm at Devki Devi Jain Memorial College for Women here yesterday. The function was presided over by Mr Hira Lal Jain. Mr B.D. Budhiraja, Dean, College Development Council, Panjab University, was the chief guest. Punjabi actress Kimi Verma was the guest of honour. The function started with namaskar mantra. The chief guest inspected the guard of honour by the NCC cadets and hoisted the National Flag.

Students presented a cultural program. A play 'Vapsi' by Nirmal Jaura was also staged which aroused the patriotic sentiments.

Christian Medical College

The 58th Republic Day was celebrated with enthusiasm in Christian Medical College here yesterday. The senior town planner, Mr Balkar Singh Brar, was the chief guest. He hoisted the tricolour and took the salute from the parade wherein students from medical, dental, nursing wings participated.

Prior to the celebrations, the prayer meeting was held at the college chapel.

SDP College

The SDP College for Women in collaboration with other SDP educational institutions - SDP Senior Secondary School, Hazuri Road, SDP Senior Secondary School, Basti Jodhewal, and Om Parkash Gupta Model Senior Secondary School, Quila Mohalla, celebrated Republic Day here on the college campus amidst great fervour and gaiety.

More than 5000 students of the SDP educational institutions holding tricolours in their hands, raising slogans 'Bhaiat Mata Ki Jai and singing patriotic songs, marched through the streets and finally thronged the venue of the main function where they were warmly welcomed by the college band.

Big Avtar Singh (retd) was the chief guest of the function. He was accorded a warm welcome by heads of all institutions, members of management, staff and students. The college band played National Anthem as the chief guest unfurled the National Flag.

Subhas House win maths contest

The Junior Humanities Forum of Middle Section of KVM organised an Inter House Maths Wiz Kids Contest for the students to improve their mental ability, calculation skills and to upgrade their faculty of analyzing and intelligence quotient

The quiz that was conducted by Mrs Aggarwal and Ms Kalpana Sharma had nine rounds such as definition, elementary, calculations, mixed bag etc.

The team comprising of Raabat, Charu and Prateek of Subhas House won the contest. Kanav, Vibhansbu and Amreesb of Gandhi House stood Second and Third prize was shared by Ashim, Piyusb & Abhinav of Raman House and Siddharth, Isha & Suryansh of Nehru House.

Flower fiesta at BCM

An inter-class flower arrangement competition was organised at BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana. A total of 76 students from classes VII, VIII, IX and XI participated in the competition which was held under two categories fresh flowers and dry flowers.

Bhartiya Vidya Mandir

A colorful function was organised yesterday in Bhartiya Vidya Mandir, Sec-39, Ludhiana. Mrs Ranjit Kaur, Principal of the school, hoisted the flag. The programme concluded with Vande Matram.

Workshop on spoken English

A workshop on Spoken English was organised at KVM School, Ludhiana, for the students of class VI to VIII. Ms Jatinder Khanna of Top Careers & You was the resource person. She spoke on the importance of English and how to learn it most effectively. The function was presided over by the Headmistress Namita Raj Singh.

Yuvtesh beats Aniket in first round

Yuvtesh Dhaliwal from Kapurthala survived some anxious moments before romping home victorious 6-5 against Aniket Bhatia of Jalandhar in the inaugural edition of the Yonex PAU Total Tennis Championship being played at Punjab Agricultural University campus here today. This first round match in the boy's u-14 years section turned out to be a see-saw battle as both the players fought valiantly for each point and finally, Yuvtesh wrapped it up.

Earlier, Mr Devinder Kapoor, Director of Total Tennis Academy, inaugurated the championship in which more than 200 participants of different age groups are taking part.

Results: Boys (u-10): Pukhraj Singh b Sehajdeep Singh 6-0; Vibhor Bansal b Vaibhav 6-3; Aaftab b Udaybir Singh Bedi 6-2 and Shrey Seth b Akhil Bansal 6-1.
