Bringing boardroom to IIT classroom

Bringing boardroom experience to classrooms, IIT- Kanpur is inviting industry executives to share their experience with budding engineers.

A number of high-ranking officials, including Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of companies, have either joined the institute as faculty or have applied for various posts on a full-time or part-time basis, IIT-Kanpur Registrar Sanjeev Kashalkar said recently.

Company executives, including those from Tata and Samtel, are already working with the institute, Kashalkar said.

While students pass out from the institute with degrees in B.Tech and M.Tech, they sometimes face problems when they join industrial units since they are not familiar with the practical side of their jobs.

IIT-Kanpur has invited the top brass of leading industrial houses to join as faculty for providing practical knowledge to students as part of the general curriculum, he said, adding they would be working on an honorary basis.

“The corporate honchos may not get paid, but the institute would provide them with high-class laboratory facilities for any research work they intend to do,” he added.

Kashalkar said more officials from leading companies would soon be joining the institute. — PTI
