Placement for CEC’s MBA batch

Mohali, February 5
Standard Chartered Bank held joint campus interviews of MBA students at Chandigarh Engineering College (CEC), Landran near here for the posts of relationship officers, senior relationship officers and assistant managers. The students of CMTR, Kharar and SASIT Mohali also participated in this interview.

Mr Devender Sharma, Centre Manager, Punjab, Mr Nitin Trikha, Area Sales Manager and Mr Amit Manchanda, territory manager conducted screening of candidates followed by a written test. Mr Sharma informed that the selected students will be given a minimum package of Rs 108000 per annum along with other perks. The package could be higher depending upon the capabilities of an individual, he added. He further told them that people working in this bank possess a bright future.

Euphoria 2007 at GMCH-32

Chandigarh, February 5
Over 2500 delegates from the country are expected to participated in Euphoria 2007 being organised by Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, at Sarai Building premises from Thursday onwards.

A press note issued by the media manager of the organising committee, Mr Harshabad Singh, stated that delegates from Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana would participate in the event.

A star-night featuring Punjabi pop-star Mika and Bhagwant Mann, a Punjabi satirist, would enthral the gathering. An all-India cricket complementation would also be a part of the event.

‘Kaleidoscope’ at St Joseph’s

The primary block of St Joseph’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44-D, Chandigarh, showcased its talent in science and social science on the school premises here on Sunday. Nearly 700 students participated in the exhibition named ‘Kaleidoscope.’ It was fun and frolic all the way for the students who proudly exhibited their projects and answered every question with wit which left the parents and other invitees impressed. Classes II to V participated in the exhibition.

Mrs Kamla Bains, DEO, Chandigarh, inaugurated the exhibition and was highly impressed. She lauded the efforts of the students and the teachers and said she had no better comments after going around 19 classrooms decorated for the exhibition.

Each section had a specific topic and all the students were involved - be it the making projects, charts or the decoration of their classrooms. Classes II to III took up various themes like animals and their adaptation, solar system, metropolitan cities, governing bodies of India etc. The students of Classes IV and V decided to take up themes related to the relevant issues of everyday life such as disaster management, river valley projects, natural resources and their conservation, waste management, human body, Indian cultural heritage, climatic zones etc.

Ms Simar Grewal, Director, Junior Wing, said: “The children are endowed with a keen sense of perception and observe everything. And such was the idea of the exhibition - to infuse team spirit, to draw out the inherent talent and to foster the creativity of the students.”

PU professor gets bronze

Chandigarh, February 5
Dr K.K. Bhasin, Professor, Department of Chemistry and Centre of Advanced Studies in Chemistry, Panjab University, has been awarded a bronze medal at the CRSI National Symposium in Chemistry (NSC-9) held from February 1-4 in Delhi in recognition of his research on the chemistry of organosulphur, selenium and tellurium compounds.

The Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI) was established by Prof C.N.R. Rao, Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister of India.

Dr Bhasin, a recipient of the prestigious British Commonwealth fellowship, Science Research Council Fellowship (UK), Visiting Scientist Stanford Research Institute, USA, and German DAAD Fellowship has made several visits abroad for collaborative research work.

Internal assessments

Assignments for internal assessment are compulsory as per the university prospectus for 2006-07. According to a press note issued by the Chairperson, Department of Correspondence Studies, the last date for receipt of assignments from the students of undergraduate and postgraduate courses is February 22. The students will have no claim whatsoever for internal assessment after the above said date.
