One killed, 4 hurt in Nandigram violence Nandigram, February 7 Among the injured was the officer in charge of a police station in East Midnapore district. The DIB personnel was attacked and killed by villagers at Ishwardehajalpai in Bhowanipore block when he visited a spot where some people were digging up the road to prevent the police from entering the area, Home Secretary P.R. Roy said. The victim’s body was yet to be traced, Roy said. Four policemen suffered serious injuries in brickbatting by villagers as the police tried to stop them from digging up roads leading to the village, IGP (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia said in Kolkata. Tension in the area was building since early this morning following the mobilisation of activists of the ruling CPM and the Trinamool Congress-led Bhumi Uchhed Pratirodh Committee at different villages. — PTI, UNI |
