GTB Hospital management going back on pact: Union

Ludhiana, February 11
Demanding payscales and other facilities on a par with the state government staff, employees of Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Charitable Hospital here continued their dharna for the second day today on the hospital premises.

Addressing the agitating employees, activists of the GTB Hospital Employees Association, Mr Nand Kishore, president, and Mr Beant Singh, secretary, of the association, respectively, charged the management with going back on the agreement signed about three months back and adopting delaying tactics in accepting genuine demands.

The speakers at the dharna demanded that in addition to grant of government payscales and other allowances, all temporary employees be regularised, families of dependents of staff members be given free medical treatment, holidays as per state government calendars be allowed and all other demands earlier accepted by the management be implemented.

Representatives of several other trade unions like the Moulder and Steel Workers Union, Dr B.L. Kapur Memorial Hospital Employees Union and Dayanand Medical College and Hospital Employees Union attended the dharna and expressed solidarity with the agitating employees.

The dharna was also addressed by Mr Mandeep Singh, Mr Vir Pal, Ms Jaswinder Kaur and Ms Karamjit Kaur.

Kiranjit basks in glory

Ludhiana, February 11
Kiranjit Kaur, a trainee of the Baba Lodhiana Academy being run here by the Punjab Basketball Association, has brought fame to the nation as she was declared the most valuable player in the 18th FIBA-Asia Junior Women's Baskebtall Championship held in Bangkok recently.

Kiranjit Kaur and Harminder Kaur, both students of the local Government College for Women, represented India in this prestigious event. Indian women won the level II championship during which they defeated Malaysia, Khazakistan, Sri Lanka and Vietnam before going down to Hong Kong.

Later, on triple tie due to the highest score, Indian cagers finished on top. Then in the match to qualify for level I, Indian eves got the better of hosts Thailand.
