organisational studies and evaluations, design systems and
procedures, conduct work simplification and measurement studies and
prepare operations and procedure manuals to assist the company’s
management in operating more efficiently and effectively. Credit
Analysts analyse current credit data and financial statements of
individuals or firms to determine the degree of risk involved in
extending credit or lending money. Prepare reports with this credit
information for use in decision-making. Financial Analysts
conduct quantitative analyses of information affecting investment
programs of public or private institutions. Financial
/Planners/Advisors advise clients on financial plans utilizing
their knowledge of tax and investment strategies, securities,
insurance, pension plans, and real estate. They assess the client’s
assets, liabilities, cash flow, insurance coverage, tax status, and
financial objectives to design viable investment strategies.

course offered by NCHMCT this year. Kindly advise me regarding the

National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology, New
Delhi, conducts an All-India Joint Entrance Exam for admission to
the 3-year B.Sc degree programme in Hospitality and Hotel
Administration offered (with IGNOU) In an effort to standardise
hotel management education the government plans to grant deemed
university status to the National Council for Hotel Management and
Catering Technology which is also the nodal body for drawing up the
course curriculum for the 24 IHMs and seven Food Craft Institutes,
besides conducting their joint entrance test. With the proliferation
of private schools the government plans to streamline the process by
getting all these institutes under one umbrella
organisation. Eligibility is plus two or equivalent exam in any
academic or vocational stream with English as a compulsory subject.
The age limit is 22 years (25 for SC/ST). Incidentally, NCHMCT does
not have a GD or Interview. Shortlisted candidates are called for
counselling at four zones namely, Delhi (N), Mumbai (W), Kolkata (E)
and Chennai (S) and allotted institutes on the basis of merit and
preference. The decentralised counselling makes the admission
process more transparent and saves students time and money. For

tourism and hospitality sector witnessing a boom that is expected to
continue till the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, the union

selection procedure for NIFT’s Bachelor of design programme? Is
the degree offered by NIFT equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in

at NIFT — both at the undergraduate as well as postgraduate levels
— is on the basis of multi-level entrance exams. And yes, the
Bachelor’s programme now offered by NIFT is a full-fledged degree,
so you can happily take the CAT or apply for any other PG course in
India or abroad. There are two objective-type tests in the first
stage of the entrance exam for the Bachelor’s Programme — Design
(Fashion, Textile, Leather, Accessories, Knitwear,
Communication). I) The first paper, General Ability Test (GAT)
comprises various sub-tests: 1) Quantitative Ability section tests
your quantitative ability. So, do brush up your matric-level Maths.
Besides the usual questions on addition, multiplication, division,
fractions, percentage, work and task, ratio and proportion,
distance, profit & loss etc you must also be proficient at class
10-level Algebra and Geometry, etc. 2) Communication Ability
section will test your English language skills. You should focus on
practicing synonyms, antonyms, words with corresponding meanings,
singular, plural, one word substitutes, idioms and phrases, correct
spellings, etc. 3) English Comprehension: In this section you will
have to comprehend a situation from a given passage 4) Analytical
Ability: inference and logic from the given information. 5) And
finally, the Business Domain Test is aimed to evaluate your
knowledge and awareness about the Fashion Industry, Designers and
Art & Culture. II) The second paper, CAT, tests your skill,
design abilities power of observation, innovation and creativity
through questions in drawing and sketching. Use of colour and
illustration is an important aspect of this test. If you clear this
stage, then you will be called for a Situation Test which is a
hands-on test to evaluate your skills and innovative ability in
handling different types of material in a given
situation. Incidentally, the date for the exam has been postponed
to April 1 instead of February 11 this year. For those of you who

till February 17 and the application deadline has been extended to
