Dept gears up for Pulse Polio drive on Feb 18

Ludhiana, February 14
The Health Department here is gearing up for the second round of Pulse Polio drive on February 18.

According to Dr Yash Pal Singla, Civil Surgeon, the campaign will cover nearly 5.40 lakh children in the district. For this purpose, 990 polio booths will be set up in urban areas and 1,176 in villages. In a bid to achieve maximum coverage, the city has been divided into 14 sectors and each sector assigned to a medical officer to ensure that no child is left out.

Dr Singla further stated that 75 transit posts and 100 mobile teams would be set up on highways and railway stations and the field staff had been directed to lay more emphasis on slum areas and children of migrant population.

100 examined at eye camp

Samrala, February 14
An eye check-up camp was organised by the Gurprasad Sadan Society in Kheri Naudh Singh village, 12 km from here, on Wednesday. A team of doctors from Guru Harkrishan Hospital, Sohana, checked up more than 100 patients. A lecture on female foeticide was delivered by a gynocologist. Senior citizens were also honoured and the President of the society, Mr Shambu Nath, thanked the participants.

KCW eves win hockey title

Ludhiana, February 14
Two goals each by Sapandeep and Mandeep Kaur enabled Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, to drub Government College for Women, Ludhiana, 5-1 in the final of the Ranjodh Kaur Grewal Memorial Women’s Hockey Tournament played at Guru Nanak Stadium here on Monday.

The fifth goal came off Chandani's stick while the lone goal for the losers was scored by Manjot Kaur. Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Bharat Nagar Chowk branch, secured the third position.

Mr Gurpreet Singh Toor, SSP, Vigilance, Ludhiana, gave away the prizes to the position holders. Mr Jagjeet Noni, an NRI, announced a grant of Rs 10,000 for the Ludhiana District Women’s Hockey Association on the occasion.

Mr Gianinder Singh Sandhu, District Sports Officer, Ludhiana, and Mr Teja Singh Dhaliwal, honorary secretary, Punjab Basketball Association, along with office-bearers of the district hockey association were also present at the prize distribution function.
