Sangrur, February 15
As many as 24 persons, including women, were injured today when two groups clashed over the possible outcome of the Assembly elections in the Malerkotla constituency of the district.

The Congress and Akali Dal supporters in Ravi Das Nagar in Malerkotla town were insisting that their respective party nominees Razia Sultana and Abdul Ghaffar would win the elections, with the debate turning violent after heated arguments for some time, the police said.

The two groups started pelting stones at one another. The police rushed to the spot and used mild lathicharge to disperse the irate supporters of the two parties. The police said that 24 persons, including some women, were injured in the clash. They were admitted to a local hospital.
