Plastic surgeons shared their experiences besides enriching their knowledge about surgical fraternity with latest professional skill, devices, management protocols and recent advances with respect to cleft lip, palate and craniofacial anomalies at the sixth annual conference on ”Expanding the Horizons of Cleft Care” to be organised by the Indian Society of Cleft Lip, Palate and Craniofacial Anomalies”, here today.
About 300 delegates from the country and 20 delegates from SAARC countries who attended that conference expressed their discussed various aspects of the cleft and the craniofacial anomalies, recent advances and management protocols, here today.
Dr I.T. Jackson, a renowned craniofacial Surgeon from USA, discussed state of the art surgical techniques for complex cranifacial abnormalities. Dr Robert Sader, Craniomaxillofacial Surgeon from Germany shared his experience regarding the intricacies involved in the management of these deformities. Dr Peter Mossey from UK discussed about the Indian scenario and the role of WHO in addressing craniofacial anomalies.
Other speakers who spoke include Dr K. Shridhar from Chennai, Dr Mukund Reddy from Hyderabad and Dr K.S. Rao from Mangalore. Dr H.S. Adenwala, a pioneer in cleft surgery in India, discussed about the future prospects for such patients.
Members of various specialities including orthodontists, speech therapists, ENT surgeons and pediatricians participated in the conference. Dr Maya Sahni, from USA, discussed the problems regarding feeding of infants with cleft lip and palate.
Dr N. Khandelwal from PGI, Chandigarh, highlighted the radiological evaluation of craniofacial anomalies. Various psychosocial and rehabilitative aspects of the patients, suffering from these disorders, were discussed by Dr A.
