A one-day free super speciality camp was organised by the National Welfare Youth Club at Jawahar Nagar Camp in Model Gram here today. More than 350 patients were examined at the camp which was inaugurated by Mr Harish Rai Dhanda.

The camp was arranged for the benefit of those suffering from respiratory problems like asthma, tuberculosis, persistent cough and related complications. In addition to the free check up by the specialists, lung function tests and sputum examination were offered to the patients. Medicines, besides treatment devices like rota-halers, spacers and MDI were also distributed free of cost to the patients.

The medical check up of the patients was conducted by eminent pulmonologist Dr Akashdeep Singh from Christian Medical College and Hospital.

According to Dr Akashdeep, the camp was organised specially for the poor and needy patients. He pointed out that in most of these cases, where health was neglected, the people landed up in hospitals only when their disease was in an advanced stage.

"About 10 to 15 per cent of the city population exhibit signs of respiratory ailments and the number of afflicted persons is more in congested and thickly populated areas, like Jawahar Nagar Camp and localities in the vicinity of industrial clusters."
