Wg Cdr Ashok Bhattacharya with best gross of 76 score emerged the champion in the inaugural edition of the Citi Bank Golf Cup Tournament organised jointly by Citi Bank and Reliance Mutual Fund at Ranjitgarh Golf Course of the Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur, near here yesterday. More than 50 golfers participated in the tournament.

An upcoming golfer, 9-year-old Firoz Grewal, student of Class 4th of Sat Paul Mittal School, Dugri, gave an excellent performance. Competing in the open category, the prodigy made his presence felt by finishing runner-up and bagged the second best gross prize with score of 80. The best net and the second best net prizes were annexed by K K Singla and Vishal Adya, respectively.

In the age group 50 years and above, Sajjan Singh Cheema scored 90 best gross to clinch the title while Brig S S Gill, who too scored 90 gross, had to content with the second best gross prize. Col D.S. Gurm (82 best gross) came out triumphant in the 60 years and above age group while Cpt A S Grewal finished runner up with 87 second best gross.

Mr D.S.Garcha, secretary, Ranjitgarh Golf Club, gave away prizes to the winners. Mr Amrinder Singh Brar, branch head of Citi Bank, Ludhiana, and Mr Gurpreet Singh, area head, Reliance Mutual Fund, Ludhiana, were among others who attended the prize distribution function.

Machhiwara, February 21
Harpreet Kaur, student of BA-II, bagged the best athlete title during a sports meet held at National College for Women, Machhiwara, yesterday.

This one-day athletics meet was inaugurated by Jagtar Singh Nagra, an NRI from Canada. He gave Rs 31,000 to the college. Tehal Singh Aujla, president of the Arhtiya Association, Machhiwara, presented the prizes to the winners. He donated Rs 51,000 for the college.

Principal Dr Parminder Singh Benipal said this was the 15th athletics meet of the college. The winners were:

Races: 100 M Harpreet-1, Chheena Bansal-2 and Harpreet(BA-1)-3. 200 M Harpreet Kaur-1,Sandeep Kaur-2 and Chheena Bansal-3. 400 M Harpreet Kaur-1,Mandeep Kaur-2 and Sandeep Kaur-3.

Relay Race- 4x100 M Harpreet, Mandeep, Ramanjeet and Hardeep-1, Amandeep, Kirandeep, Gurdeep and Taranveer-2 and Gurjeet, Manpreet, Simarjeet and Chheena Bansal-3.

Shot put: Manjeet Kaur-1, Simarjeet Kaur-2 and Jaspreet Kaur-3. Chaati Race: Harpreet Kaur-1, Ramanjeet Kaur-2 and Mandeep Kaur-3.

Hurdles Race: Palwinder Kaur-1,Kirandeep Kaur-2 and Jaspreet Kaur-3. Discus Throw: Jaspreet Kaur-1,Simarjeet Kaur-2 and Jaspreet Kaur(10+2)-3.

Long Jump: Dilpreet Kaur-1,Sandeep Kaur-2 and Harpreet Kaur-3.Sack Race: Harpreet Kaur-1, Rajwinder Kaur-2 and Mandeep Kaur-3. Three-legged race: Harpreet and Mandeep-1, Ramanjeet and Amanpreet-2 and Rajwant and Puja-3.

Harpreet who was awarded with the best athlete title, participated in 11 events. She got seven first positions and one third position.
