Golfers swig and swing under floodlights
Donald Banerjee

Chandigarh, March 3
The Chandigarh Golf Club greens sparkled under flashlights as the first flood-lit Swig and Swing Tournament attracted more than 125 golfers for a night golf tournament tonight.

Those 125 golfers included about 20 women. Swig and Swing as the name suggests needed the golfers to have a swig and then swing after every alternative hole.

But this year the club had cut down on the swig part of it restricting it to 30 ml instead if the 60 ml of hard drink after every alternative hole.

It was not just hard drinks even the quantity of milk (for non-drinkers) was reduced to smaller bottles for every alternative hole.

This was the first night tournament conducted by the Chandigarh Golf Club.

The Chandigarh Golf Club is the only other club after the Delhi Golf Club to have a flood-lit tournament.

The Bangalore Golf Club is also flood-lit, but because of objections from the Air Force authorities there is a bar on putting on the floodlights because of its proximity to the runway.

The flood-lit greens will be a major attraction once the club opens its doors to the tourism world.

With the results of over 125 golfers yet to be compiled, the final results were expected not before midnight.
