IBBA flays sacking of Pak CJ
Legal Correspondent

New Delhi, March 13
An international body of retired judges and lawyers today condemned the sacking of Pakistan Supreme Court Chief Justice Ifitkhar Muhammad Chaudhry by President Pervez Musharaff, describing the action as “shocking and deplorable”.

The International Bench and Bar Association (IBBA), which claims to have the membership of retired judges and lawyers from 50 countries, said under the Pakistan’s Constitution the President had every right to refer the allegations against the Chief Justice or a judge to the Supreme Judicial Council, but sacking order before its findings “raised serious doubts over the bona fide of the reference.”

The IBBA also raised doubts over the constitution of the Supreme Judicial Council to probe the charges against Justice Chaudhry.
