Pashu palan mela a big draw
Ludhiana, March 17 Justice Jain was impressed with the excellent breed of animals reared up the university. He suggested the farmers to learn the latest techniques from the university. Director of the extension education O.S. Parmar explained the importance of the mela. He said superior animals like Murrah buffaloes, bulls, crossbred cows, goats, pigs, rabbit, poultry and fish were exhibited there for the farmers. There was a great rush of farmers to have a glimpse of these superior animals. There was a thorough interaction between farmers and scientists and the latter answered queries of the farmers regarding livestock farming on modern techniques. Farmers purchased mineral mixture prepared by the university in bulk and a great rush was witnessed at the nutrition stall. Demonstrations on various aspects of correct milking method, teat dip practice, uromol lick technology and acaricide drug application were also held. The value additions of milk and meat technologies were also explained to them. All departments of the university put up their stall in exhibition. Dairy and livestock industry exhibitions covering feed, pharmaceuticals, vaccines and milk processing machinery were organised at the mela. Punjab dairy development and fisheries departments had also put up their stalls. The mela was attended among others by dean, College of Veterinary Science, Dr S.S. Singh, director research, Dr A.S. Nanda, dean, postgraduate studies, Dr S.K. Jand, director, student welfare, Dr K.S. Sandhu, heads of departments, faculty, students and other staff. |
New heads to join varsity departments
Ludhiana, March 17 Saxena is a renowned immunologist and has won several awards at national and international levels. He is a fellow of National Academy of Veterinary Science, India. He has been credited with the annual awards of Space Foundation USA, Young Scientist Award and Mid-Career Award of Indian Society for Veterinary Immunology and Biotechnology. He is also a fellow of Cambridge Philosophical Society, Cambridge, UK, and a member of Royal Microscopical Society, Oxford. Dr Saxena had earlier been on a diplomatic assignment to Russia where he served as councillor (Science and Technology) in the Embassy of India, Moscow, looking after science and technology cooperation of India with Russia, Ukarine and Belarus. Prabhakar is a known obstetrician and has worked extensively on obstetrical problems of dairy animals like uterine torsion, stress following dystokia in buffaloes and prolapse of genetalia. His work has been appreciated during various national and international symposia. He was honoured with the young scientist award by the Indain Society for Study of Animal Reproduction (ISSAR). He is also a fellow of the ISSAR. Prabhakar was also awarded post-doctoral fellowship by the Association of Commonwealth Universities at University of Liverpool, UK. Jindal is a well known teacher of veterinary physiology and has been serving this institution for more than 20 years and was selected as professor of physiology during last year. He has done his Ph.D from the University of Alberta, Canada, under the Commonwealth Fellowship. He is working in the field of reproductive physiology and endocrinology, and is also the recipient of the level Young Scientist Award. Recently, he was honoured by India International Friendship Society, New Delhi, with ' Bharat Jyoti' Award. |

Scientists from Moscow visit kisan mela
Ludhiana, March 17 They attended the kisan mela on the campus, besides seeing the university academic and research facilities. They also visited some farms. At a meeting with vice-chancellor of PAU K.S.Aulakh, the scientists deliberated on technical and logistical questions related to the implementation of an exchange programme between the two universities. The four-point work plan consisted of the selection of materials and development of a brochure on 30-year MSAU-PAU cooperation, extending the Memorandum of Cooperation (Agreement on Cooperation in Education, Research and Technology) for 2007-2010, mutual no-fund-exchange visits of delegations i.e. two persons from each university for up to 10 days and joint participation in the international distance learning course "Agri-food systems in the global world". The visiting scientists presented a memento to Dr Aulakh. |

Indian diaspora
Ludhiana, March 17 Dr T.S. Anand, director of the seminar, shared information about the proposed seminar. The keynote address will be delivered by Dr Jasbir Jain, professor of English from Jaipur, while Prof S.L.Sharma, an eminent sociologist, will speak on the sociological dimensions of the Indian diaspora. 3,000 students take part
in jobs mart
Ludhiana, March 17 CEO of Hero Majestic Limited and president of the Ludhiana Management Association Mahesh Munjal inaugurated the job festival. He guided the candidates to develop a focused approach for seeking jobs and make efforts for matching their skills with the expectations of industry. About 3,000 students from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh participated on the first day of the festival. Ludhiana March 17 The drawings made by the students were par excellence. Some students came out with wonderful ideas. It was amazing how colours and pictures could convey the hidden meanings. The response from the students was overwhelming. Director of the school Gajjan Singh Thind expressed his joy over the response of the students and encouraged them to join defence service so that they could do something for their motherland. He also highlighted the role of Woman in today's scenario. Principal of the school Harmeet Kaur encouraged the students and guided them to give a practical shape to their ideas and aspirations. "Every child is born with some special quality and it is in school life only they get a platform to polish their talent", she said. She also emphasised that in today's world Indian woman is proving herself better than her counterpart. She gave a career guidance lecture in which she encouraged the students to join the defence forces. |
