Chandigarh, March 29
Member of Rajya Sabha from Punjab, M.S. Gill, today said that he had talked to Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, who had assured that no ban would be imposed on private companies to purchase wheat from Punjab.
“This afternoon I talked to Pawar as well as the Union Food Secretary. Both have assured that there was no question of stopping any trader from buying wheat from farmers”, said Gill.
“Pawar told me that the Union Government have made all arrangements to procure wheat from farmers in Punjab and Haryana. However, farmers would be free to sell wheat to private companies in case higher price is offered by them”, said Gill. However, the Union Government would monitor the purchase made by various agencies.
