Chandigarh, April 4
The Punjab Home Department has reportedly recommended the suspension of former DGP S.S Virk while informing the Union Government of its decision.
Sources reveal that suspension has been recommended in a case where Virk had allegedly had some financial transaction for a purported land deal in the periphery of Chandigarh.
Under civil services rules, the state government is required to keep the Union Home Ministry, controlling authority of the IPS cadre, informed of any disciplinary proceedings initiated against any IPS officer.
Sources reveal that the state government was authorised to suspend an officer belonging to the central civil services on deputation with it. Action about suspending Virk was confirmed by highly placed officials in the state administration.
Virk, however, could not be contacted for comments.
