CM meets PCCTU leaders, orders release of grant

Doraha, April 7
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has accepted the demand of the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union by directing the Finance Department to immediately release the grant of the fourth quarter amounting to Rs 20 crore.

The decision came after a meeting of office-bearers of the PCCTU, including Jagwant Singh, general secretary, H S Walia, state unit President, with Parkash Singh Badal during a sangat darshan with on Thursday.

In a press note issued to this effect by Kuldeep Singh, area secretary, PU, Prof Manjit Komal, President of the Ludhiana unit, they informed that other issues such as implementation of the pension-cum -gratuity scheme, release of 95 per cent grant were also discussed with Badal to which he gave a patient hearing. He assured them that due consideration on all these issues would be given. They also submitted a memorandum in this regard.

Later, the union leaders discussed similar issues with the minister for higher education Upinderjit Kaur, who also gave a positive reply on the issue regarding the release of 95 per cent grant to the colleges and lifting of ban on recruitments.

Seminar on CAD, reverse engg held

A seminar on CAD/CAM/CAT and reverse engineering was organised at the Bhutta College of Engineering and Technology, Ludhiana today.

Animesh Kumar Nanda, CAD/CAM engineer from ETCS Engineering Services was the resource person.

Nanda explained the basics of Auto CAD with 2D, 3D geometric dimensioning and basic measuring techniques that are related to the fundamentals of tool design and computer aided inspection.

He also explained the process of reverse engineering, which helped in developing the solid models, NC cutter parts, FEM mesh etc for downstream applications.

Details of the various applications of reverse engineering for designing and developing stamping dyes, moulds, automotive design, rapid prototyping, product design, CAD data conversion and tool design were also given.

Mechanical engineering students took a keen interest and participated in the seminar. The seminar was organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the college.

Director, BCET, A.S. Bansal emphasised on exposure of the young engineers on such topics in order to build the next generation of mechanical engineers.

Bal mela at Lovely Lotus

Ludhiana, April 7
A bal mela was organised on the occasion of the silver jubilee celebrations of Lovely Lotus Nursery School, BRS Nagar, here yesterday.

Children played games and enjoyed themselves by interacting with kids from other schools. In the evening, it was an open house which saw an impressive participation by people and their children from near and afar.

The main attractions were a movie show, galaxy show, magic shadow show, puppet show, magical world of books and an electronic toys show, etc. Virtual reality water pond and a jungle scene were also displayed. Art work of children in the form of portfolios was also put up.

Teachers from other schools could be seen making enquiries about reciprocating the gesture.

Global vote for world children BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, is one among the 4000 schools from all over the country to have been invited to participate in the global vote for world's children's prize for the rights of the child in Sweden.

According to the school authorities, this is the world's largest annual educational programme for children and youth (between 10 -17 years) based on the rights of the child, democracy and global friendship. By participating in this unique exercise, the school will become one of 20,000 global friend schools worldwide in 82 countries.

In order to bring a change in the status of socially deprived children of the world, three candidates from all over the world are contesting for school students. The contestants are Cynthia Maung (Burma), Inderjit Khurana (India) and Betty Makoni (Zimbabwe).

To contribute for the event, the school is observing April 7 as the global vote day. Students from Classes IV to XII will be voting for the candidates of their choice.

Kids focus on nutritious food

Ludhiana, April 7
To promote health and enable children to grow and mature into physically, emotionally, socially and mentally healthy adults, the health club of Peace Public School organised a function on ‘World Health Day’ today.

A poem on the importance of apple in our diet was presented by Class I students. The ill effects of eating too many candies and sweets were the theme of the presentation by Class II students.

The importance of milk was emphasised through an action song. “Go vegetarian” was a loud and clear message for all. Various first aid methods were displayed and explained by students of Class III. A skit was presented where the harmful effects of taking junk food was effectively enacted. The tiny tots of the school enjoyed a fruit party. The teachers encouraged all students to eat nutritious and wholesome food.
