Senior docs want notification amended
Chandigarh, April 13 They sought the notification to be amended and NPA restored to senior doctors so that doctors retiring this month did not suffer. The association stated this in a memorandum to the minister of health and family welfare, Punjab. Due to the ceiling of Rs 38,500, most senior medical officers were unable to avail themselves of the NPA, which was resulting in their drawing less pay than some of junior officers, said the association. The association further said because of the ceiling, senior doctors were unable to avail themselves of the interim relief. They wanted the relief to be admissible on the NPA component of pay.

Chandigarh Golfing Tour gets warm welcome Our Golf Correspondent
Chandigarh, April 13 The tournament saw 68 golfers from Dubai, Delhi and the region tee off in the afternoon sun with the day temperature hovering a little under 40°C. It turned out to be a sweaty start to the promotion of Chandigarh as a golf destination. Among the participants were five members from the Bhutan Embassy and Jaggi Brar who is representing the Indian Golfers Society, Dubai. Rakesh, who was representing Kapil Dev's Dev Musco firm, started badly with six bogeys in the first nine. But the return nine saw the former paceman strike a bright patch bogeying only twice for a eight-over card of 80. Anupinder Grewal, Guneet S. Takkar and the new Golf Club course captain S.S. Lehal returned identical cards of 81. But because of a better back nine, Anupinder Grewal (38), Guneet S. Takkar (39) and S. S. Lehal (41) finished in that order. Ravi Lamba from Delhi, who was closest to the pin (5 ft 8 in) was happy to be in Chandigarh for the tournament. He was all praise for the Chandigarh greens. And yes, the weather was too scorching. Rajan Sehgal representing the Travel Agents Association of India, Delhi, however felt that every weather was fine for golfers. His first feel of the Chandigarh greens was fine. However, Prabhjot Singh and Amarinder Singh Chopra felt that tourism golf could have been played in better weather. Gaurav Dogra from Delhi was all praise for the course. So was Sanjay Dutta who liked the idea of golf tourism which he hoped would be taken up in right earnest and be made an annual affair. Tourism golf, promoted by the Chandigarh Golf Association in collaboration with the Chandigarh Tourism Department is the brain child of the UT Tourism Director Vivek Atray. According to him, he got the idea from golf tourism promoted by Scotland while on a visit to Edinburgh. He felt Chandigarh could be a better golf destination as the infrastructure available here could attract golfers from India and abroad. Besides it could be the cheapest destination for learning, practicing and playing golf from anywhere in the country. The second round of the tournament shifts to the Panchkula Golf Club tomorrow which starts at 8 am. The results: Gross: Rakesh Jolly 80, Anupinder Grewal, Guneet S. Takkar and S.S. Lehal 81, Rahul Aggarwal, Brinder S. Gill and Gurpreet Singh 82. Nett: J.S. Grewal 65, Parminder Saigal 65, Rakesh Jolly 67, Gaurav Dogra 67, Brig I.S. Punia 68. Longest drive: Guneet S.
