Inter-district cricket: Amritsar in strong position
Our Sports Reporter

Ludhiana, April 15
Amritsar team was sitting pretty against hosts, Ludhiana, at draw of stumps on the first day of the inaugural match of the Punjab State Inter- District Cricket Tournament (u-15) being played at Satis Chander Dhawan Government College ground here today.

In reply to Ludhiana's first innings total of 150 all out, the visitors were 64 for 1 after 21 overs.

Ludhiana won the toss and elected to bat first. However, their decision to make use of the pitch first proved to be a miscalculated one as the top order failed to perform well.

The team was tottering at 62 for five when Abhishek Talwar and Abhijit Randhawa joined hands to steady the innings.

The pair added valuable 55 runs for the sixth wicket. Abhijit scored 43 runs while Abhishek contributed 19 runs. Other notable scorers were Vivek (21), Sandeep Singh (11) and Piyush Likhi (13).

For Amritsar, right-arm off spinner, Vinay Choudhry, gave an excellent performance with the ball, chipping in with seven wickets conceding just 35 runs. Kamal Passi and Suraj Parkash grabbed one wicket each for 16 and 10 runs, respectively.

Amritsar began their reply on a sound note.

At draw of stumps, the visitors were 64 for one wicket.

Rohan was unbeaten on 34 while Shiv Luv was bowled out for 26.

Gurdeep sent down four overs and took one wicket by conceding seven runs.
