Himachal woos Bollywood

Shimla, April 15
Himachal Pradesh, which has formed the backdrop of many a hit movie in the past, is planning to cash in on the natural beauty of the state by formulating a comprehensive plan to make it easier for the Bollywood filmmakers to shoot in the state.

The Department of Tourism was preparing a 30-minute audio-video cassette “Himachal Through Films” comprising clippings of all past movies shot in the state, commissioner-cum-managing director of the HP Tourism Development Corporation Tarun Shridhar said.

The highlights of the plan included collecting fee for shooting at one place (Tourism Department) and thereby sparing filmmakers from the trouble of running from pillar to post to get clearance from different departments.

As part of its smart-market strategy, the department had been participating in film festivals and other programmes on films and TV to disseminate information about the state, he said.

Department officials participated in the international film festival in Goa in November last year and also put up a Himachal stall to provide comprehensive information about the state to film personalities.

Citing the case of Singapore that spent around Rs 6 crore on providing facilities for the shooting of “Krishh”, he said the film, in return, made Singapore a popular destination for shooting.

Singapore had been seen in many Bollywood movies after the success of “Krishh”, he added.

Filmmakers and TV serial producers had been consulted on ways to promoting Himachal as a favourable destination for shooting, he said. — PTI
