Heat stroke claims life
Tribune Reporters

Abohar, April 16
An unidentified person of about 35 years died of heat stroke near a petrol-station outside Gumjal village on the Abohar-Sriganganagar road today, sources said. The victim used to beg from truckers and other vehicle owners halting at petrol and diesel stations on the national highway No. 15, for the past few weeks. Yesterday 43°C temperature was recorded, sources in the Weather Department said. Today, the temperature was higher than yesterday’s, they confirmed.

The rise in temperature will be harmful for cotton and other crops sown in the region, experts feared. The subdivision and surrounding areas have been reeling from drinking water crisis for a fortnight.

CHANDIGARH: The region is witnessing a steep rise in temperature with many parts of Punjab and Haryana recording temperatures two to seven degrees higher than normal for this time of the year. According to officials in the Meteorological Department, Hisar in Haryana has recorded 42.4°C, which is six degrees above normal.
