Non-payment of salary sparks protest
Ludhiana, April 17 Highlighting the problems being faced by the employees, coordination committee district convener Amarjit Singh Pandher said the health staff was facing severe financial crunch due to non-payment of salaries. He alleged that repeated representations to senior officials in this regard had proved futile. Pandher further said the civil surgeon had retired on March 31, 2007, and the department had not delegated powers of ‘drawing and disbursement’ to any other officer due to which the salaries could not be drawn from the Treasury office. He urged the department to sort out the matter without any further delay either by appointing a civil surgeon or by giving powers of drawing funds to some other officer. The trade union leader said the protest would continue till the salaries were paid to the employees. Prominent among those who spoke on the occasion were Buta Singh, Ravi Dutt, Surjit Singh and Jagjit Singh. |
