New Delhi, April 19
Caught in a delicate situation with the Supreme Court fixing April 23 as the next date of hearing on the union government's application seeking vacation of its stay on the implementation of 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in institutions of higher learning, the directors of all six Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are meeting here tomorrow to decide the next course of action.
The IIMs had cautioned that they would not be able to extend the admissions indefinitely and had fixed a cut off date of April 21, compelling them to reconsider their earlier stand.
At the meeting of the IIMs, an official of the HRD ministry is also expected to be present.
IIM sources were non-committal about extending the April 21 deadline pertaining to announcing the final list. At the same time, they cautioned that if the meeting failed to reach any decision, then it might be left for each IIM to chart its own course.
The government plans on implementing the 27 per cent reservation for OBCs from the current academic session has been baulked by the apex court.
