Landslide kills 4 Nepali migrants

Palampur, April 21
Four Nepali migrant labourers were buried alive and three seriously injured in a landslide possibly triggered by extensive blasting by a private power company, near here, this evening.

The labourers were working on a contract basis with the power company.

The incident occurred a few hours after a massive blasting exercise was conducted by the company. The labourers were removing the debris to pave the way for the construction of the road.

Rocks that had got loosened after the blasting fell on them. They rolled down along with a bulldozer, said C.P. Verma, Palampur SDM.

One body was recovered soon after the incident, while the three were still lying buried when reports last came in.

The administration has suspended the rescue operation till morning due to bad light. The labourer whose body had been recovered was identified as Ram Dulare. Other three labourers, who were buried under the debris, have been identified by the company authorities as Madan Bahadur, Durga Chaudhary and Rupesh Chaudhary.
