GNIMT signs MoU with PSB Academy, Singapore
Ludhiana, April 22 But in Singapore, PSB is also responsible for entire higher-technical and professional education. It has five international campuses in Singapore with more than 10,000 international students and 25,000 employees from various companies worldwide taking training from the PSB Academy. MoU was signed by Dora Ng Ying Shia, vice-president of the PSB Academy, Singapore and Dr (Col)
H.S. Singha, director of the GNIMT. This MoU was the result of continuous efforts made by Rupal Shah, Manager International Students, who had visited the campus twice. The main aims of the MoU include exchange of students, organisation of study visits, training and provision of student exchange opportunities through recognition of academic credits, guidance, exchange of faculty, organisation of seminars, workshops and conferences, including exchange of mutual experiences in teaching, research and industrial practice. Meanwhile, the Institute held a Faculty Development Programme yesterday in which the expectations of a leader from his team and also of the subordinates from the leaders were discussed. The resource person was Dr (Col) H S Singha, director of the GNIMT. He said leader will expect from his immediate subordinates a deep involvement in the affairs of the organisation. The subordinate must be a team player and show initiatives, anticipation of future, self and subordinate development and knowledge of current happenings and other things of importance, he added. |

Sunil Bharti conferred degree
Ludhiana, April 22 The degree was awarded to Mittal by the governor of Uttarakhand and chancellor of
G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Sudarshan Agarwal. It was 23rd convocation of the university which was held yesterday at its campus. Also present at the occasion were the chief minister of Uttarakhand Maj. Gen. (Retd.) B.C.
Khanduri, speaker of Uttarakhand assembly, Harbans Kapoor, minister of agriculture T.S. Rawat, former chief justice,
M.N. Venkatachaliah and the vice-chancellor of the university P.L. Gautam. After receiving the honour Mittal said, “I am delighted to receive this honour from such a renowned institution. The award of this prestigious degree of Doctor of science is a testimony to the work that I led through Bharti Enterprises towards some key transformational projects, which have served the nation in a very meaningful manner. I would like to offer my sincere thanks to the university.” Mittal was recently conferred the coveted Padma Bhushan Award by the government of India for his contribution towards the development of a world-class telecom sector in the country further resulting in the economic development of the nation. |

Environment awareness camp held

Ludhiana, April 22 Dimple Chopra, incharge of the Eco-Club gave a presentation related to the causes, features and preventation of “AIDS”. On this occasion, declamation contest and fancy dress competition were also held. The theme of both competitions was Environment Awareness. The tiny tots presented themselves in the guise of tree, sun, plants, gardener, butterfly, polythene bag etc. Abhivadan Sharma of class XI stood Ist in declamation contest. In the fancy dress competition, Vagish, Natin and Shivay stood I,II,III, respectively. Students also held a model exhibition in which they depicted various environment problems and their remedies. reading contest Amrit-Indo Canadian Academy, Ladian ,organized an inter-house science paper reading contest for senior students. The topics for the contest were “World - a global village” "global warming-decreasing forest cover”, “junk food-a health hazard” and “waste management-need of the hour”. The main aim of the contest was to sensitise the students towards environmental problems arising due to scientific development and the impact of modern lifestyle on our health and our surroundings. Harveen Kaur won the first prize. Whereas, Amritjot Singh won second and Navneet Kaur third prize. Appreciation prizes were given to Amandeep Kaur Kooner and Gurleen Kaur. The function was presided over by the director of AICA. The certificates were awarded by the principal, Jaskiran Kaur. |

Kaushal elected Taxation Bar Association chief
Ludhiana, April 22 According to a press release, issued by the returning officer, other office bearers would include Jagjit Singh (vice-president), Vijay Sharma (secretary), Rajinder Dharwal (joint-secretary) and Vinay Sharma (finance secretary). The executive committee of TBA would comprise O.P. Miglani, H.S. Ubhi, Sunil Sharma, Tarlok Bhalla and Balwinder Singh. |

Punjabi Sahitya Akademi honours Jaggi, Vinod
Ludhiana, April 22 Jaggi is the former head of the Punjabi department of Punjabi University, Patiala. He has written two volumes each of Guru Granth Sahib Encyclopedia and Sikh Panth Encyclopedia, which are immensely popular and have several reprinted editions. T.R. Vinod is also a renowned Punjabi writer and a literary critic. He has authored several books. According to Ravinder Bhattal, general secretary of the Akademi, the awardees are chosen by an eminent group of writers and scholars who evaluate their overall contribution to the Punjabi literature. |
