12 passports recovered from Katara’s residence New Delhi, April 22 Investigators were also verifying the statements of Surendralal Yadav, a suspect who named four parliamentarians in the case, after which they were likely to call the named MPs for questioning. “We have recovered 12 passports from his house,” police sources said adding they suspected that these passports were used to illegally send people out of the country. However, the police is exercising caution as those named in the case are parliamentarians and would like to verify the statements of Yadav, a paan shop owner, who named Ramswaroop Koli, BJP MP from Bayana (Rajasthan), Mohammed Tahir Khan, BSP MP from Sultanpur (Uttar Pradesh), Mitrasen Yadav, SP MP from Faizabad and late parliamentarian Ram Avadh in court. The accused travel agent also named a person, who, he said, was personal secretary of TRS chief K. Chandreshekhar Rao. “We are going through the travel details of the four MPs. There is no point in questioning the politicians without verifying the facts,” a police official said. The verification of the travel records of the MPs is expected to take at least two days. The police said it had launched a hunt for Shardaben, wife of Katara and his three sons who are untraceable since the Gujarat MP’s arrest on Wednesday. The investigators had visited his residences in Jhalod town and his native village of Chitrodia in his parliamentary constituency of Dahod. Meanwhile, police in collaboration with the Gujarat officials has frozen three bank accounts of Katara in Dahod. Delhi police has sent teams to Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat to investigate the case. Suspect Yadav, who claimed to have introduced two travel agents to the MPs, is also likely to be taken to the three places in connection with the investigation. — PTI
Viagra recovered from Katara’s baggage New Delhi, April 22 “We recovered some sex stimulants from the MP’s baggage. He might have kept it for his personal use,” a senior police official told IANS on condition of anonymity. Katara was arrested on Wednesday with one Paramjeet Kaur and a 15-year-old boy, Amarjeet Singh, who were posing as his wife and son. The locally made sex stimulants were recovered from his baggage along with his other belongings. The police claimed they had recovered at least three passports from Katara's possession and were checking the authenticity of the documents. The officials said Katara could also be involved with some women. However, a senior police official said: “Though we recovered the pills from the parliamentarian, we are not investigating the matter. Keeping such things is not a crime, everyone has the freedom to use them,” he added. The arrest of the BJP MP from Dahod in Gujarat blew off the lid of what now appears to be a well-planned international human trafficking racket. The police has also voiced suspicion on the role of immigration officials in the human trafficking racket. They maintain the diplomatic passports of Katara's wife and son were found to bear post-dated arrival stamps here, despite the fact that the woman and the boy accompanying Katara were yet to take the outgoing flight. With more skeletons tumbling out of the cupboard, police officials said the full picture of the trafficking syndicate was yet to unfold. — IANS |
