ISTE students’ chapter inaugurated
Doraha, April 26 Singh inaugurated the ISTE students’ chapter at BCET. Singh also spoke on up and coming nano-technology which deals with atoms. Small-sized nano-structures will play a significant role in the coming time. He also made students aware about the carbon nano-tubes which lie between 1-10 nano metres. The carbon nano-tubes are much stronger than steel tubes of the same size and are more conductive than gold, which is considered to be the most conductive metal at present. Micro-technology will be replaced by nano-technology in the coming 10-15 years, he said. Singh gave away prizes to the winners of the literary contest held recently. |

Students honoured at RIMT-IET
Mandi Gobindgarh, April 26 In the December 2006 examination conducted by the Punjab Technical University, Amandeep Singh Gill, student of mechanical engineering (Semester VII) stood first in the university while Ashish Banga of electrical engineering (Semester V) and Anu Kasturi of B. Tech (Semester I) were bracketed second. Parninder Kaur stood fifth and Praksheksha Sharma got the sixth position in group A of B.Tech (Semester I), Maggi Bansal of B.Tech(Semester I) was eighth in group B, Gaurav Aggarwal of electrical engineering (Semester V)was fifth, Dharmendra Singh of civil engineering (Semester I) was sixth, Anshu Bansal of computer science and engineering (Semester V) was tenth and Parminder Kaur of computer science and engineering (Semester VII) was fourth. In the sports category, Kaushik won the title of Mr PTU twice in the 70 kg weight category. Gagnish Mittal won one gold medal, two silver medals and one bronze medal in the inter-college swimming tournament. Parmeet Kaur, Veerinder Kaur, Nitika, Akansha Sharma won the bronze medals in the inter-college lawn tennis tournament. Usha Rani won two silver medals and one bronze medal in the university athletic meet. RIMT-IET cricket team stood second in the inter-college competition. Rajpreet Singh bagged a bronze medal in inter-college power-lifting championship. The chairman of the institution, Hukam Chand Bansal, congratulated the students and said the vision of RIMT was to inculcate a passion for learning and continuous development in the students. He gave a cash prize of Rs 11,000 each to the university merit holders. Also, a cash prize of Rs 5000 each was given to the ones who got first positions in the various disciplines of the college. Declaring Karan Dheer as all-rounder and Kaushik as the best sportsperson, he presented a cash prize of Rs 5000 to each of them. |

An entertaining musical evening
Ludhiana, April 26 The Ludhiana Sansktritik Samagam had arranged a unique music programme titled, ‘Film Music through Ages- From KL Sehgal to KK.’ Sunil Munjal, president of the LSS, said he had been successful in bringing DO RE Mi music group that has to its credit more than 1,000 shows. Since it was an interactive evening, the audience clapped and enjoyed singing along with the singers and it was a memorable evening as it drove away stress of people. Gaurav of Do RE Mi started with popular numbers of KL Sehgal and moved on to Hemant and Talat Mehmood while Deepak enchanted the public with evergreen songs of Kishore and Mohammad Rafi. Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champ six-year-old Sukanya sang with such maturity and powerful voice that she had the audience gasping. Prajakta Shukre of the Indian Idol fame was a livewire and sang popular numbers of varied singers like Asha, Lata, Sunidhi etc. She sang with verve and coaxed the audience to sing old numbers like ‘Dum Maro Dum’, and ‘Aihsan tera Hoga Mujh par’. Comedy actor Pardeep Pallavi of Laughter Champion fame presented his comedy in the form of a song. Moushmi and Anupama also presented songs of popular singers of the yore like Uma Devi, Shamshad Begum. |

Sarabha ladies hold function
Ludhiana April 26 Shammi Bindra, President of the Sarabha club said club had more than 300 active members. Apart from cultural programmes, they were doing charity work by adopting a school at Sarabha Nagar. The members of the host club held a fashion show and walked on the ramp.
