New Delhi, April 28
The BJP and the Samajwadi Party (SP) today demanded the government’s response to reports circulated by a website that Bofors case main accused Ottavio Quattrocchi had hatched a plot to assassinate former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at a hotel in Paris.

V.K. Malhotra (BJP) and Ramji Lal Suman (SP) raised the matter during zero hour in the Lok Sabha. They quoted the website as saying that the conspiracy was hatched by Italian businessman Quattrocchi and LTTE’s intelligence chief Anton Balasingham in a hotel in Paris.

They pointed out that the website claimed to have evidence from the French intelligence agency to support its claim. Malhotra and Suman said since the French government had not so far commented on the report. The government should investigate the matter and inform the House. Malhotra also said HRD minister Arjun Singh had reportedly said the government would get it investigated.
