The fifth phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh passed off without any violence being reported from anywhere today. Around 46 per cent of voters came out to vote in the nine districts. The highest polling percentage at 54 per cent was at Jehanabad in Fatehpur and the lowest at 28 per cent was in Lucknow West.

Officially only 20 cases of irregularities in voting lists and 12 of malfunctioning of EVMs were reported. Still in almost every polling station in Lucknow, a large number of people were complaining of missing names.
