New Delhi, April 30
It was another scorching day across north-west India with temperatures hovering at least two to four degrees above normal in several parts of the region. Almost all parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh continued to reel under severe heatwave-like conditions. While Amritsar sizzled at 43°C, the Capital recorded a maximum of 42°C. The good news, however, is that as per the Met Department, temperatures are likely to come down in the north-west during the next couple of days. But as on date, Jammu at 41°C, Chandigarh at 37°C and Jaipur at 43°C remained in the grip of gruelling heat. It was
comparatively better than Sunday as midday temperatures hovered two to seven degree above normal in north and central India. According to reports, three persons have died in Punjab and one each in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, taking the toll to five. Director, IMD, S.C. Bhan says that under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation isolated to scattered rain/thundershowers are likely over western Himalayan region during the next two to three days. Duststorm or thunderstorm is also likely over plains of north-west India and Rajasthan during the same period.
