Ludhiana, May 6
Manjit Singh Kang has taken over the reins of the Punjab Agricultural University at a crucial time. Particularly when expectations from the university are high owing to pressures on agriculture in terms of productivity and economy.

Given his experience and exposure in the US, the expectations have grown further.

Kang has equally great expectations from the university that happens to be his alma mater as well. He studied BSc Agriculture, about 40 years ago here. He believes that the university has huge potential to deliver.

In an interview with The Tribune here, Kang said, "For achieving success and making it big you do not need to necessarily go out (of the country)".

The only thing needed, he pointed out, is accepting the challenge. He said, the PAU has done it once by making immense contribution towards the success of the first Green Revolution.

Another revolution is needed now, with a much wider canvass to ensure that the results reach the maximum number of people.

He said many people were left out in the first revolution and those loose ends need to be tightened now.

He said research has to reach the grassroots for translating it into real success. A greater interaction between the farmers and scientists is needed. In this case, he emphasised the role of the media for creating awareness among the masses about the latest innovations.
