More safai staff needed, union tells Badal
Our Correspondent

Mandi Ahmedgarh, May 6
The local unit of the Safai Mazdoor Union has urged the Punjab Chief Minister to direct the Local Bodies Department to review the staff strength in the Sanitary Department. It has also urged him to abolish the practice of carrying night soil on head.

According to Roop Lal Kalyan, office-bearers of the union at a meeting, headed by Som Nath Chuahan, held here on Saturday, resolved to seek the intervention of Badal in getting the sanitary arrangements reviewed.

“Though the area and population of the town has increased during the past decades, the strength of scavengers has not been increased accordingly. Obviously, the quality of work gets affected when some employees proceed on leave,” argued the union leaders.

Other long-pending demands of the employees were also discussed at the meeting.

Hussan Lal Hans, chairman, Rakesh Kumar, vice-president, and Ashok Kumar Dhaliwal, secretary of the unit, also spoke.
